About Killara Rural Fire Brigade
Killara Rural Fire Brigade is one of the newest rural fire brigades in NSW. It was established to combat fires and other emergencies in our local community and across NSW. We provide support to our community members when they are most vulnerable and stressed.
The brigade responds to all kinds of emergencies including bushfires, structure fires, storm damage, floods, motor vehicle accidents and search and rescue.
Our Double the Impact Project:
The brigade plans to purchase 10 lockers for storing firefighters’ Personal Protective Clothing (PPC) in between uses – these will be installed in the new Killara fire station when it is built in the next 12 months.
The RFS is providing our fire station building, trucks and basic firefighting equipment but it is up to the brigade to raise the funds needed to fit out the building with necessary furniture and equipment so that it can operate efficiently and effectively as a fire station.
Who will benefit from this fundraising initiative?
Our firefighters will directly benefit from the project by being able to securely keep their PPC at the fire station and thus be able to respond more quickly to emergencies. This in turn will enable us to better perform our main functions of responding rapidly to bush fires and other emergencies in our area and so will benefit all local residents and businesses.
Our brigade’s firefighters are called out for emergencies by an online app and, if available, drive immediately to the fire station. However, before they can leave in a fire truck, they must don their PPC – the faster they can be dressed, the earlier the truck can respond.
